The International Council on Archives Barcelona Congress 2025 launches the new provisional website of the congress, a first reference point that presents in three languages – Catalan, Spanish and English – essential information such as thematic areas, the congress venue, latest news, and contact information.
Barcelona was selected as the venue for the International Archives Congress (ICA) on June 18, 2021. Under the title “Knowing Pasts, Creating Futures” the congress wants to project Barcelona and Catalonia as a meeting place for archival and documentary management professionals from all over the world. It also wants to transcend other professionals who, in the evolution of archival, are being incorporated into the daily life of archives, administrations, institutions and society.
The provisional website, ICA Barcelona 2025, is a first point of reference in three of the official languages of the event – Catalan, Spanish and English – where the congress wants to present the main details of what will be the first great International Archives Congress hosted by Barcelona.
The main page links the promotional video of the candidacy, focused on the concept “Knowing Pasts, Creating Futures” through images of archives from all over Catalonia. It recognizes the professional archives sector as dynamic, present in innovative projects and guarantor of the preservation of the most recent testimonies of our contemporary history. A brief explanation accompanies the video about the International Council on Archives and the opportunity that arises holding the Congress in Barcelona for archive and record management professionals as well as those professional sectors of data at an international level.
In a second section, the thematic areas of the congress are introduced for the first time. These focus on the connection between archives, memory, human rights and digitalization. The Program Committee, which will be officially established in the coming weeks, will work on the development of the program with archives and documentary management professionals from around the world.
Likewise, it introduces the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), the venue chosen for the congress on the 28, 29 and 30 October 2025.
A news section is added that will allow the progressive collection of articles, information or public events that happen about the evolution of the congress organization.
