On Wednesday, March 12, the International Council on Archives (ICA) took another exciting step towards its 2025 Congress. ICA President Josée Kirps, the ICA Programme Committee, and representatives from the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Ministry of Culture of the Spanish Government, and the Association of Archives and Records Management Professionals of Catalonia gathered at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB) to refine key logistical elements of the Congress.
During the visit, the team explored the spaces where the main sessions will unfold, evaluating capacity, layout, and the cutting-edge technical resources that will support thousands of archive and records management professionals from around the world in October 2025.
Beyond touring the venue, the team reviewed detailed plans for parallel session rooms, interactive workshop spaces, and the poster-presentation area. They also finalised arrangements for ICA Group meetings and other internal gatherings. Discussions covered everything from live interpreting needs and panel formats to the feasibility and costs of the exposition. Special events—such as luncheons for the New Professionals and the National Archivists Forum—were also part of the planning discussions.
This progress is made possible through the strong collaboration between all organising partners, whose shared vision and coordinated efforts are paving the way for an extraordinary international gathering in Barcelona.
