The preliminary programme for the International Archives Congress – ICA Barcelona 2025, available in PDF format, offers a detailed schedule of the sessions and events planned from 27 to 30 October 2025 at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB).
How to find your sessions
The document classifies sessions by colour, across five thematic tracks, helping each participant easily identify the content most relevant to their interests:
1. Managing Memories / Preserving Identities
2. Conflict, Disaster and Displacement
3. Records of Rights
4. Digital and Accessible
5. Archival Futures
This system gives participants a clear picture of how each session will be presented. Session titles appear in the language in which they will be delivered, indicated after the speaker’s name (English, Catalan, Spanish or French). Sessions are also offered in a range of formats: co-lab sessions, lightning talks sessions, ICA sessions and poster sessions, each with its own colour code so that those interested in a particular format can locate them easily in the professional programme.
Programme for 27 October: opening day of the Congress
The opening day of the Congress, 27 October, will be dedicated to introductory activities that combine institutional meetings and specialised workshops. In the morning, working meetings will be held by groups from the International Council on Archives (ICA), where members will discuss topics relating to their work across this global professional network. These sessions will take place simultaneously in six dedicated rooms at the CCIB, promoting dialogue and collaboration among professionals in the field.
A half-hour break will follow — an opportunity for participants to rest, enjoy some refreshments and connect with other participants, fostering the exchange of ideas and experiences in a relaxed setting. The afternoon will feature a full programme of specialised workshops, each lasting two to three hours and focused on a key topic in archival science.
Workshops fully booked
At present, all places for these workshops are full. However, individuals who are still interested may add their names to the waiting list during the Congress registration process. If a place becomes available, it will be allocated to the next person on the list, in order of registration.
